Martin Gladman is Clinical Sexologist, Couples Counsellor and Accredited Mental Health Social Worker offering services for individuals and couples in Woodend, Melbourne and online.  Martin offers both generalist and specialist Medicare* rebated social work services (which includes counselling support) for individuals treating conditions such as dyspareunia (pain during sex), premature or delayed ejaculation and erectile dysfunction to name a few as well as supporting couples with concerns relating to relationship/marriage difficulties, mismatched libidos, intimacy during illness and post surgery, sexuality confusion and more.

Martin offers an evidence based counselling service, incorporating Medicare approved Focussed Psychological Services such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy and Motivational Interviewing (MI) in his sessions. Martin's practice overall draws on philosophical principles seen in Humanistic approaches, as well as attachment and system theories.


Martin has a long history of working with people of all sexual orientations and genders (including those within LGBTIQAP+ communities) and has experience working with people who are newly diagnosed or living with STIs and HIV. Martin has a particular interest in treating legal and consentual paraphilias, providing support to couples and enjoys providing a multi-faith service, adapting his service where possible to suit the faith or spiritual beliefs of his clients.

Martin completed his Bachelor of Social Work with Honours in 2013, focussing his studies on providing services to individuals, groups and families with a particular focus on loss, trauma and grief, psychology, human rights, philosophy and world myths and narratives.  Martin begun working in the community sector whilst completing his studies and has worked as a social worker within the housing and homelessness sector, youth sector, education sector and mental health sector.

Martin completed his Masters of Science in Medicine in 2017, specialising his studies in the area of sexual health and relationship education, adolescence sexual health, psychosexual therapy and variations to sexual function.  Martin graduated with a high distinction average and went onto work in the sexual health field as an educator, counsellor and rapid HIV & STI testing facilitator.  Martin now provides counselling and consulting/coaching services specially focusing on supporting clients with concerns regarding to sexual dysfunction, sexuality and/or gender.

Specialist Course in Integrative Couple Therapy

Martin was accepted to participate in the renowned Specialist Course in Integrative Couple Therapy offered by Relationships Victoria. An intensive course for established professionals, the course covers the latest, evidenced based practices for working with couples in a counselling context.  Martin is due to graduate by mid- 2022.

How much do you charge?

Individual sessions are $180 for a 50 minute session, with a rebate of $77.80 available with an eligible Mental Health Care Plan, meaning an out of pocket expense of $102.20. Couples sessions are $240 for a 50 minute session. Rebates are not available for couples sessions.

Can I see or access you online or via phone?

Yes, appointments are available face-to-face, online or over the phone.

Can I use a Mental Health Care Plan?

Yes, for individual sessions only. Please ask your GP to fax an eligible MHCP before your first appointment and we can process the relevant rebate at point of payment. A MHCP can not be used for couples sessions.

What counselling modalities do you use?

Martin offers Focussed Psychological Services, which are Medicare approved, evidence based counselling modalities. These include Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Martin's couples work is informed by attachment theories, system theories, psychodynamic theories and emotional focussed therapy. 

Are you registered with any professional accreditation body?

Yes. Martin is registered with the Australian Association of Social Workers.

Is sex therapy a sex service?

No.  Sex therapy is a professional, counselling service which requires both the client and the practitioner at all times to remain clothed, seated separately, with no physical or sexual activity permitted of any kind.  Please note we have a zero-tolerance policy in regards to any inapporaite behaviour.

What communities do you support?

We provide a safe, open and non-judgemental counselling service for heterosexual and LGBTIQAP+ communities, polyamorous communities, sexually adventurous communities and those who work within the sex industry.  For clients who are new or interested in learning about kink or sexually adventurous practices, we recommend linking in with educators or counsellors who specialise in this space, in which case we would be happy to refer you onto an appropriate practitioner.

What if I have a fantasy or sexual desire that is illegal?

We understand that some people struggle with fantasy's or desires that are illegal and may be wanting to access treatment to work though these. We believe that everyone should have the right to access appropriate services, however Martin is not qualified to provide a service for these conditions, and such in these circumstances we would support you to access a forensic psychologist who would be better placed to support you with your needs.
